Emotional Rescue completes its final Konduko reissue series, coming to possibly Noel Williams’ best electro cut, Fantasy. Teaming up again with Larry Dermer (aka Der Mer), from Fall Out fame, they crafted a straight-up electro jam that pushed the BPMs and hyped the vocoder to the max.

Released in 1984, Fantasy heralded a new direction that Williams’ had been exploring, the heavy bass his trademark, now showcased around tight, emulated TR-808 beats, accentuated snare, “Planet Rock” stabs, and a futuristic, yet mournful melody, the punchy vocals delivered in distorted vocoder style exemplify time and space (is the place).

Highlighted further in the Instrumental mix, the scratches and whistle refrain shine, while the driving rhythm made this a DJ hit, before going on to be influential in the later Miami Bass sound. This stripped version was heard from Downtown NY to the incoming Techno City of Detroit, and with it hugely influential in what followed.

To complete the label asking artists and producers long admired to bring their updated take on Williams’ catalogue, DJ, editor and sea of positivity, Jonny Rock comes correct with a respectful, looped and refreshing reversion-excursion. Showing his increasing editing dexterity that has seen him take a rightful seat at the higher table, his long form Discomix is the perfect closing of this series and the whole project, bringing Konduko, Noel Williams aka King Sporty’s music to life again.
