about

Emotional Rescue presents its final series of Konduko reissues by examining the label’s final period, moving from reggae, boogie and disco, but keeping with the times and a selection of their electro productions that have resonated down the years to be influential on the Miami music scene for years to come.

Noel Williams continued his heralded career, a music journey that flowed from his youth in Jamaica and early reggae and soul releases, through to his move to Florida, mixing reggae and disco on his early Konduko releases, through to the “hits” of Haven’t Been Funked Enough” and “Do You Wanna Dance?”, as well as his writing and production work for many artists, including his life-long partnership with Betty Wright and finally, his writing and friendship with Bob Marley.

The most successful release on Konduko during these electro years (1983-1996) was when Williams teamed up with local songwriter and artist Lawrence Dermer aka Der Mer and their jointly penned Fall Out. Only appearing on the label in Test Press, it, and most of the later electro period, were released on the sub label, Tashamba.

A driving electro-funk track, Fall Out became a local and national club hit, it’s bouncing beat creating a warmer, funkier sound than the sparser electro emanating further north in New York. While Dermer would go on to become a Grammy winning songwriter for Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine, Fall-Out is all about the groove, the vocoder laced vocals, with era defined boasts was as credited in making the record a success.

Rereleased numerous times, the original 12” versions could not be beaten. Included here is the shorter instrumental version and once again the B side is handed over to esteemed DJ and producer Dan Tyler (Idjut Boys) for one of his expansive NAD Discomix. A 10 minute plus electro-dub, his live mix shakedown, cutting between the original and vocoder, all with heavy doses of bass, dub and fx to start this final series with panache.
