about

The second in the Caribbean reissue series comes this time from Trinidad with an electro-sample Jam for all intents and purposes. The super rare Robot Jam is presented in 2 parts and comes with a very special remix via the esteemed Nick The Record, here up with Dan Idjut for a dub-electro work out.

Singer song writing duo Carl and Carol Jacobs have been a fixture of the Trinidad music scene for over 30 years. As a duet they have released a series of Soca and Reggae tinged 12”s and LPs for Rohit, Straker, Crosby and Eddy Grant’s ICE label.

It was more of the same on their 1986 Bend Down And Rock release on Crosby Records, however over on the flip things got really interesting. Sampling Santana, Rock Master Scott and Rappin’ Duke thrown in DJ cut up style and all mixed with some Caribbean swing to create something truly unique. Coming in 2 Parts (Vocal and Instrumental) for DJ action, this is a drum heavy, club special.

As with the first in the series, the B side is given over to a contemporary interpretation. A special thanks must be made to Jamie Tiller of the excellent Music For Memory label who first introduced the track, but in this instance the update comes fromesteemed DJ, collector and infamous record dealer of standing, Nick The Record and his studio co-hort, Dan Idjut.

It was from several late night discussions with Nick about the release that the idea of him providing a edit/remix was muted. Teaming up with one half of the Idjuts is a dream come true for the label and while the idea of the reissues has always been about highighting the originals, here Nick and Dan go beyond an edit with a heavy dose of space echo, kick and arrangement to hand in a killer remix or in this case, rerub.
